Charles Thomas Sardeson and Kärn Oline Hovland¹⁴ were married on 7 January 1880 in Yellowstone Church, Blanchardville, WI, USA. It was Carrie (correction: Karn Oline Hovland-Sardeson) who set out the maple trees about her home. Soon everyone was planting maples as they provided welcome shade. In the autumn, the maple's colors still adorn the village. Mrs. Sardeson's introduction of the maple is important. When the settlers first arrived, there were few trees. The land was a true prairie, an endless sea of blue stemmed grass with but a few stands of white oak here and there.
